Rhode Island events
Rhode Island motorcycle events, bike nights and charity rides
Rhode Island motorcycle events are mostly local and weekly: bike nights at shops and bars, spring blessings of the bikes, summer charity rides and fall toy runs. For a big rally, Rhode Island riders head north to Laconia Motorcycle Week in New Hampshire in June or west to Americade on Lake George. Here's the calendar, how to find bike nights near you and how to post your own.

The calendar
Rhode Island's motorcycle calendar, season by season
Spring (April and May): The season opens with blessing of the bikes rides at churches, dealers and clubs. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, which brings awareness rides and safety events, and the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride runs worldwide each May.
Summer (June to August): Weekly bike nights are in full swing, and charity rides land on most weekends, often ending at a restaurant, a club or a beach town. June is rally month in New England, so plenty of Rhode Island riders spend part of it at Laconia.
Fall (September to November): The best riding weather of the year brings fall rides, memorial rides and the first toy runs, which collect gifts for kids ahead of the holidays.
Winter (December to March): Riding events go quiet. Club meetings and the odd dry-day breakfast ride fill the gap until spring. For the weather behind this calendar, see the best time to ride in Rhode Island.

Big rallies within reach of Rhode Island
Rhode Island doesn't host a major multi-day rally, but some of the biggest in the East are a day's ride away. Dates change year to year, so check the organizer before you plan.
- Laconia Motorcycle Week, New HampshireUsually in June, centered on Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee. One of the oldest rallies in the country, a few hours north by highway, and a good excuse to ride the White Mountains the same week. See our New Hampshire motorcycle guide.
- Americade, Lake George, New YorkA big touring rally on Lake George, usually in June. A long day's ride west through Massachusetts or Connecticut, with Adirondack roads waiting at the end.
- The Distinguished Gentleman's RideEach May, riders on classic and vintage-style bikes dress sharp and ride to raise money for men's health, in cities around the world. Register on the DGR site for the nearest ride and route.
- The Florida ralliesDaytona Bike Week in March and Biketoberfest in October pull plenty of New England riders south, either for a week of warm riding before home thaws or one last rally after the leaves drop.
Racing
Motorcycle races to watch near Rhode Island
Racing is a spectator trip from Rhode Island, and three venues are close enough to plan around. AMA Supercross has run rounds at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, in recent seasons, a short ride from Providence. The Loudon Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, often called the longest-running motorcycle race in the country, traditionally runs during Laconia week. And Southwick, Massachusetts, has hosted rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship on its sand track for decades.
Venues rotate and schedules change, so check each series for the current year before you plan a trip. And keep the racing on the track: ride there and home at a pace that leaves room for everyone else on the road.

How to find bike nights in Rhode Island
Bike nights are where Rhode Island riding happens week to week. Dealers, shops, bars and restaurants host them on a set weeknight through the warm months, from the Providence and Warwick area down to the shore. Some are big, with music and vendors. Most are a parking lot full of bikes and people who want to ride.
The easiest ways to find them: ask at the shop where you buy tires, follow local clubs, and check the events map. In Rippin', open Meets, set your area, and the closest bike nights, meets and rides show first. Tap RSVP so the organizer knows you're coming.
- Arrive and leave quietly. Neighbors decide whether a bike night survives.
- Park where the host tells you, and don't block paying customers.
- Buy something. The host is giving you a lot for free.
- Leave the burnouts and revving at home.

Before you go
Riding to events in Rhode Island: bridges, ferries and parking
- Check the wind. The Pell, Jamestown Verrazzano and Mount Hope bridges are high and exposed, so check the forecast before a long crossing.
- Carry E-ZPass for the Newport Pell Bridge toll.
- Plan the ferry if your ride includes Block Island. The traditional ferry from Point Judith carries vehicles; check its rules for motorcycles and book ahead in summer.
- Plan parking in Newport. Event weekends fill every lot, so ride in early and park once.
- Share a ride plan with departure time, route and stops so the crew meets at the same gas station at the same time.
- Ride home in daylight when you can. Deer and tired drivers are both worse after dark.
