The problem
What a car driver ignores can put a rider down
Gravel washed across a corner, a fresh oil patch at a stop sign, a pothole on the inside line of a sweeper. A car rolls over all of it. On two wheels any one of those can ruin a ride.
The riders who come through before you usually saw it. Road alerts let them leave a note on the map for everyone who comes after. And weather is the other thing riders get caught by, so Rippin' alerts you before you head out.
How it works
How motorcycle road hazard alerts work
- 1
Spot something
You see a hazard on a road, like debris or gravel in a corner.
- 2
Pull over first
Stop somewhere safe. Never touch the phone while you're moving.
- 3
Flag it on the map
Mark the hazard so the next rider sees it.
- 4
Check before your next ride
Look over the map for hazards on your route, and watch for weather alerts before you leave.
On a real ride
The morning after a storm
It rained hard on Thursday night. Friday evening a rider coming down your favorite canyon road stops at a turnout and flags a corner where the runoff left a layer of gravel across the lane.
Saturday morning you get a weather alert before you leave and swap the mesh jacket for something warmer. You look over the map, see the gravel flag on that canyon, and decide to ride it slower than usual, or take the road one valley over. Either way, you know before you get there.
Know the limits
What alerts are and aren't
Rider-flagged alerts are a heads up from other riders, not an official road report. Something flagged yesterday may be cleaned up today, and something new may not be flagged yet. For closures and construction, check your state's transportation department before a long ride.
And to be clear: Rippin' does not have crash detection. If you ride alone, tell someone your route and when to expect you, and look at options built for that job.
Free vs Plus
Safety info is free
Road alerts and weather alerts are free for every rider. Rippin' Plus ($4.99/mo) pays 1.5x points on every ride and adds auto-recording and unlimited AI ride plans. It doesn't change what alerts you see.
Tips
Tips for riding with alerts
- Make checking the map part of your pre-ride routine, along with tire pressure.
- Flag hazards when you've stopped somewhere safe. A flag a mile later is still useful.
- After a storm, expect gravel and debris in corners even where nothing is flagged.
- Ride to the conditions. No alert replaces your own eyes on the road.
- If a flagged hazard is gone when you ride through, that's good news. Conditions change fast, which is why fresh flags matter.
How it connects
Where alerts fit in
Hazards show on the same Explore map as turf, segments and poker stops. When you plan with the loop builder or the AI ride planner, a quick look at the map tells you if a road on your plan has a flag on it. Riding with a group? Share what you saw in your squad chat too.
