Big recurring California motorcycle events
These come around most years. Dates change year to year, so check the organizer before you plan.
- AMA Supercross in Southern CaliforniaSupercross usually opens its season in January at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, and Southern California often hosts more early rounds. A stadium race to watch, not a ride. Ride in with your crew and keep the racing in the stadium.
- The Distinguished Gentleman's RideEvery May, riders dress sharp on classic and vintage-style bikes and ride to raise money for men's health. Cities across California hold rides. Register on the DGR site for the date and route.
- Pro Motocross in PalaIn recent years, the AMA Pro Motocross outdoor season has opened in spring at Fox Raceway in Pala, in north San Diego County. Check the series schedule for this year.
- Nevada rallies, one tank awayTwo Nevada rallies pull a lot of Californians across the line: Laughlin's River Run in the spring and Reno's Street Vibrations in the fall. The Nevada hub has more.
- Holiday toy runsToy runs and charity rides happen across the state in November and December, most posted by local clubs, shops and dealers. Check the events map as the holidays get close.
Tracks and hangouts
Track days and the weekend rider spots
If you want to ride fast, California has tracks for it. WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, Sonoma Raceway, Thunderhill Raceway Park near Willows, Buttonwillow Raceway Park and Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in the desert all have motorcycle track days and racing on their calendars. That's where speed belongs.
California also has weekend gathering spots that work like standing events. The Rock Store on Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monica Mountains and Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Boulevard above Silicon Valley have pulled in riders on weekend mornings for decades. They're on our California roads guide along with the roads that lead to them.

Seasons
California's motorcycle event calendar, by season
Winter (December to February): Toy runs in December, then Supercross in the stadiums. Desert rides and events pick up around Borrego Springs and the Coachella Valley while the weather there is mild.
Spring (March to May): The busiest stretch statewide. Club rides, swap meets, season kickoff rides, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, and spring rallies just over the Nevada line.
Summer (June to August): Events move to the coast, the mountains and evenings. Sierra towns get busy once the passes open.
Fall (September to November): Some of the best riding weather of the year, Street Vibrations in Reno, charity runs, and the first toy runs by November. Check the best time to ride in California for the weather side.
Before you go
Before you ride to a California event
Lane splitting is legal here, but stop at the state line on the way to Nevada, where it isn't. The rules are on the California motorcycle laws page, and the full state overview is on the California hub.
- Confirm the date and entry with the organizer the week before. Plans change.
- Check closures on Caltrans QuickMap the morning you leave, especially for mountain and coast routes.
- Watch fire weather in late summer and fall. Red-flag days can close roads and cancel events.
- Plan around traffic. Leave early or late to skip the worst of the metro freeways.
- Share a ride plan with your squad so everyone knows the departure time, route and stops.
