Colorado motorcycle events, races and bike nights
Colorado motorcycle events lean toward riding and racing: Pro Motocross at Thunder Valley in Lakewood each June, AMA Supercross in Denver in recent seasons, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride every May and bike nights all summer along the Front Range. Plenty of Colorado riders make the August run north to Sturgis, too. Below is the live list from the Rippin' events map, then the recurring events and how to find or post a bike night.

Big recurring motorcycle events in Colorado
These come around most years. We don't list exact dates because they move year to year, so check the organizer before you plan.
- Thunder Valley National, LakewoodA round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, in the foothills west of Denver, usually in June. Outdoor motocross at altitude. Check the series schedule for this year.
- AMA Supercross in DenverSupercross has held rounds at Empower Field at Mile High in recent seasons, in spring. A stadium race to watch, not a ride. Check the series schedule.
- Pikes Peak International Hill ClimbThe famous race to the clouds on the Pikes Peak Highway, usually in late June. It hasn't included motorcycle classes in recent years, but it's still a spectacle, and the highway is closed to the public on race days.
- The Distinguished Gentleman's RideEvery May, riders dress sharp on classic and vintage-style bikes and ride to raise money for men's health. Check the DGR site for Colorado rides and routes.
- Holiday toy runsClubs and shops along the Front Range and in mountain towns run toy drives and toy runs in November and December most years. Check the events map as the holidays get close.
- Track daysThe place for speed is a track. High Plains Raceway on the plains east of Denver hosts track days for street riders. Check the organizers for dates.
August
Riding from Colorado to Sturgis
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota runs for about ten days in early August, and Colorado riders have one of the shorter trips to it. Check the organizer for dates. A common route heads north on I-25 to Cheyenne, then up US 85 through eastern Wyoming to the Black Hills. It's long, open and windy, with few towns.
Plan fuel stops in Wyoming, expect heavy rally traffic near the Black Hills and Devils Tower, and book rooms early. Ride home in daylight: pronghorn and deer are out at dusk on the plains.
Every week
Find a Colorado bike night, or post your own
Big events are a few weekends a year. Bike nights are every week, and they're how you find riders to ride with. Rippin' puts them on the same map as turf, segments and poker stops.
Shops, clubs and brands that host a lot can use Organizer Pro ($8.99/mo) for unlimited and recurring meets, official events on the calendar and recurring ride plans. A shop or cafe can also become a poker stop. More on motorcycle events in Rippin'.

Road closures
Events that close or crowd Colorado roads
Dates change every year, so check before you go.
- Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, usually over Memorial Day weekend: a bicycle race from Durango to Silverton that closes parts of US 550 on race day.
- Pikes Peak hill climb week, usually in late June: the Pikes Peak Highway closes to the public for practice and the race.
- Aspen color weekends, mid to late September: heavy traffic on the Peak to Peak Highway, Guanella Pass and the central passes.
- Summer weekends in the park: Rocky Mountain National Park has used timed-entry reservations in summer, which affects Trail Ridge Road.
Before you go
Before you ride to a Colorado event
Timing matters as much as the event. See the best time to ride in Colorado for pass openings and storm patterns.
- Confirm the date and entry with the organizer the week before. Plans change.
- Leave early. Afternoon storms build over the mountains most summer days.
- Check the road and weather on COtrip and in the app the morning you leave.
- Pack a warm layer and rain gear, even for a summer evening event in the foothills.
- Ride home in daylight. Deer and elk are on mountain roads at dusk.
- Share a ride plan with your squad so everyone knows the departure time, route and stops.
Seasons
Colorado's motorcycle event calendar, by season
Spring (March to May): Supercross has come to Denver in spring, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride lands in May, and bike nights start up as the weather warms.
Summer (June to August): The peak. Thunder Valley in June, pass rides and mountain-town meets all summer, and the Sturgis run in early August.
Fall (September to November): Aspen rides in September, the best riding weather of the year, then a quieter stretch as the passes close.
Winter (December to February): Toy runs in December, then dry-day rides on the Front Range while the high country waits for spring.
